How this site works — and how we make money
This page details the data sources, pricing formulas, and ranking rules used to compute all-in electricity costs on AskTexasEnergy.
How plans are priced
- Rates shown are all-in: provider energy charge + TDU delivery charges. TDU charges come from PUCT rate reports and carry their effective dates.
- Monthly cost at your usage = provider energy charge × kWh + TDU delivery charges (per-kWh + fixed monthly, from PUCT rate reports with effective dates) + plan base charges − bill credits in months usage meets their condition. When you upload a bill, plans are priced through our marketplace partner's engine at your exact usage, so our number matches their checkout.
- Upload a bill and every plan is priced at your actual usage — the same engine our enrollment partner's checkout uses, so the price you see here matches the price you see there.
- Bill-credit plans show their conditions next to the rate. Where your usage doesn't meet a condition, we say so.
How plans are ranked
Default order is strictly ascending estimated cost at your usage (or the selected tier). Referral compensation does not enter the sort.
Rankings are ordered by estimated cost to you. Our commission never affects order. If two plans tie on cost, we may route enrollment through the marketplace that pays us more — the plan and your price are identical either way.
How bill reading works
Our parser extracts the provider, rate, monthly kWh, ZIP, and bill amount so plans can be priced against the information on your bill.
Identifiers such as your ESI ID pass through processing and are not stored. See our Privacy Policy for retention details.
How we make money
AskTexasEnergy is free. When you enroll through our links, the fulfilling marketplace — PowerHQ, operating as EnergyBot (PUC Texas Reg #BR200046) — pays us a referral fee. We never sell your data, run ads, or accept payment for placement.
What we never collect
No accounts. No names, emails, or phone numbers — no field for them exists on this site. Bill uploads are processed in memory; personal details are deleted within 30 days. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Data sources
Plan data comes from our licensed marketplace partner; plan pages show when rates were last verified · TDU delivery charges from PUCT rate reports with effective dates · Grid conditions from ERCOT public data.
We may earn a referral fee if you enroll through our links. This never affects rankings.
