Business usage is more complicated than residential — demand charges, peak windows, contract structure. Pete can walk through your situation.
🤖 Talk to Pete about your commercial rate →Multiple delivery utilities · 4 ZIP codes across the Victoria area
Victoria is located in Victoria County, Texas. The Victoria area includes deregulated ZIP codes served by AEP Texas Central. Part of Victoria is served by CenterPoint; delivery utility and electricity choice depend on your ZIP. This city comparison represents 8 retail electricity providers. With 4 ZIP codes across the Victoria area, commercial customers can compare demand charge plans, time-of-use rates, and green energy options from multiple providers.
Choose a ZIP code to see rates and plans for that specific area
How deregulation, delivery, switching, and ZIP-level pricing fit together
Current conditions that influence local electricity demand
Statewide outage activity from DOE EAGLE-I / ORNL
A local TDU, competitive providers, and flexible contract choices
Use your new ZIP code to compare plans before move-in
If you're relocating to Victoria, choosing an electricity plan is simple. Look up your new ZIP code above, and compare available providers. Most switches happen same-day or next business day. No outages during switching, and you can usually lock in rates 60–90 days before your move date for the best pricing.
Who to contact when delivery service is interrupted
If the power goes out, call your TDU (delivery company), not your electricity provider. The TDU handles all outage repairs and service restoration.
Answers about rates, providers, switching, and local delivery
1. What does "deregulated" mean for Texas electricity?
In a deregulated market, you have the power to choose your retail electricity provider. Your local TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility) still delivers the electricity through the same poles and wires regardless of which provider you pick.
2. What is an Electricity Facts Label (EFL)?
An EFL is a standardized document that shows the true cost of an electricity plan at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh usage levels. It also lists all fees, contract length, cancellation penalties, and renewable energy content so you can compare plans accurately.
3. What does 100% renewable mean?
100% renewable plans match your usage with renewable energy credits (RECs) — your home still receives standard grid power.
4. What is the difference between fixed and variable rate plans?
A fixed-rate plan locks in your energy price per kWh for the full contract term, protecting you from market swings. A variable-rate plan changes monthly based on wholesale prices and can go up or down each billing cycle.
5. What are bill credit plans and are they worth it?
Bill credit plans give you a statement credit when your usage hits a specific threshold (e.g., 1,000 or 2,000 kWh). If you consistently hit the target, you get a great effective rate. If you miss it, your cost per kWh can be significantly higher than advertised.
6. When is the best time to shop for electricity in Texas?
The best time to lock in low rates is January through April, when demand is low and providers compete for customers. Rates tend to peak from June through September during the summer cooling season.
7. Can I switch electricity providers at any time?
Yes, you can switch providers at any time. If you switch within 14 days of your contract end date, there is no early termination fee. Outside that window, your current plan may charge a cancellation penalty listed on your EFL.
8. What is a TDU delivery charge?
The TDU delivery charge covers the cost of maintaining the power lines, poles, transformers, and meters that deliver electricity to your home. This fee is the same regardless of which provider you choose and is regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
9. Are renewable energy plans available in Texas?
Yes, most retail providers offer plans powered by wind, solar, or a mix of renewable energy certificates (RECs). Texas is one of the top wind energy producers in the world, so green plans are widely available and often competitively priced.
10. What is ERCOT and what do they do?
ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) manages the Texas power grid and oversees the wholesale electricity market. They ensure reliable supply but do not sell electricity directly to consumers — that is done by retail providers.
11. Can renters choose their own electricity provider?
Yes, renters in deregulated ZIP codes have the same right to choose their electricity provider as homeowners. You can shop for plans, switch providers, and take your plan with you if you move within a deregulated area.
12. How current are these rates?
We refresh plan data every two hours and show the time each page's rates were last verified.
13. Who is AEP Texas Central?
AEP Texas Central delivers electricity to Corpus Christi, Victoria, the Rio Grande Valley, and coastal South Texas communities.
14. What is AEP Texas Central's service area?
AEP Texas Central serves Corpus Christi, McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville, Victoria, Laredo, and surrounding South Texas counties. In Victoria, ZIP codes may also be served by CenterPoint; check your ZIP for exact coverage.
15. How do I report an outage in the AEP Central area?
Call 866-223-8508 or use AEP's outage map at aeptexas.com/outages to report and track power outages.
16. What are AEP Central's delivery charges?
As filed with the PUCT effective September 1, 2026, AEP Texas Central's residential delivery charges are $3.24/month ($1.27 customer + $1.97 metering) plus 5.8000¢/kWh.
17. How does hurricane season affect AEP Central customers?
The coastal location means higher storm risk from June through November. AEP maintains dedicated storm crews and mutual aid agreements for rapid restoration. Customers should have a generator plan ready.
18. Is electricity deregulated in Victoria, Texas?
Parts of Victoria are served by AEP Texas Central, and part is served by CenterPoint. Electricity plan availability and delivery utility depend on your ZIP; enter it to confirm what is available at your address.
19. Do I need to pay a deposit for electricity in Victoria?
Most providers in Victoria run a credit check at enrollment. If your credit falls below their threshold, deposits typically range from $50–$300 and are often refunded after 12 months of on-time payments. Prepaid electricity plans skip the credit check and deposit entirely — you load credit in advance and pay as you go.
20. How often do electricity rates change in Victoria?
Fixed-rate plans lock in your price per kWh for the full contract term — typically 6, 12, or 24 months — so your energy charge never changes regardless of market conditions. Variable-rate plans reset monthly based on wholesale prices and can rise or fall significantly, especially during summer heat waves or winter storms in Texas.
21. Can I switch electricity providers in Victoria without a fee?
In ZIP codes served by AEP Texas Central, switching is available in the deregulated market; whether a fee applies depends on your current contract and Electricity Facts Label (EFL). Another part of Victoria is served by CenterPoint, where provider options may differ. Enter your ZIP to confirm the utility and plan choices for your address.
22. What is the average monthly electricity bill in Victoria?
The average residential electricity bill in Victoria is approximately $130–$180 per month, based on typical usage of 1,000–1,200 kWh. Bills peak June through September due to air conditioning demand and drop in spring and fall. Comparing plans on AskTexasEnergy and locking in a low fixed rate is the most effective way to reduce your monthly cost.
