About This Dashboard

The Texas Grid Status Dashboard is a real-time monitoring tool built for businesses and facility managers operating in ERCOT-managed Texas electricity markets. Unlike residential rate sites, this tool is designed around the decisions that drive commercial energy costs: when to run heavy equipment, when to curtail non-essential loads, and how to avoid the peak-demand windows that determine your transmission fees.

The dashboard shows four key grid metrics updated on every page load: wholesale electricity prices (converted to ¢/kWh so they match your bill), grid capacity utilization with available reserves in MW, renewable mix (wind and solar percentage, which affects price volatility), and the next anticipated peak window for your location.

The 4CP threshold indicator is especially important for large commercial accounts. Texas uses Four Coincident Peaks — the average of your facility's demand during the four highest 15-minute grid peaks each summer — to set annual transmission charges. Knowing when the grid is approaching those critical windows lets you curtail loads and potentially cut 15–20% from your annual energy spend.

When status shows CRITICAL or ELEVATED, consider deferring large machinery startups, raising thermostat setpoints, and shifting discretionary loads to overnight hours. NORMAL conditions — especially when wholesale prices are below 4¢/kWh — are typically the right time to pre-cool, run batch processes, or charge on-site storage.
